Humilty

At a prayer meeting, a speaker once asked a question that stayed with me: What is the ultimate proof that you have Jesus?

We might point to holy habits—wearing a crucifix, praying daily, or speaking in spiritual language. While these are good, the speaker offered a sharper standard: humility.

Our world conditions us to broadcast our achievements, project unshakeable confidence, and strive to be the best. While healthy confidence is useful, it easily turns into arrogance. How do we remain genuinely humble while navigating a competitive world? We cannot rely on pure willpower or worldly ambition; we must look to Christ, His Mother, and the life of grace.

Worldly ambition waits until it has accumulated wealth and status before giving back. But Christian holiness serves right now, even when we have little to offer. When we surrender our ego to the Holy Spirit, we find the true freedom promised in God's Word: “True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life” (Proverbs 22:4)—rewards that begin in this life, but find their fullness in eternity.
